Go Where the Wind Takes You

This morning I went outside to a dreary rain-filled day. So, it just started off bad. So, to make matters worse, my hat that I am used to wearing with my fall jacket somehow got attacked over the summer and has holes in it. So, it was sent straight to the trashbin. Cold day + Rain = Shameka's ears freezing and upset that she is cold. This may sound drastic, but I felt like the wind was rattling my bones. I am not a happy camper when I don't have a hat.
So, what is a knitter to do? Make one, of course. I was on a mission today. After work, I went to Downtown Yarns for the first time, and had my sights on a Manos del Uraguay yarn in the Mulled Wine colorway. Much to my dismay, there was no Mulled Wine to be had. I had plans to make the R&R Beret that my good friend/Rhinebeck buddy Sauniell designed. She wore it during Rhinebeck, and everyone was super excited about her hat. She had even gotten her yarn at Downtown Yarns as well.
So, there I was a little heartbroken that I could not have the Mulled Wine, and the nice saleslady was telling me that she could order it in a few weeks. A few weeks?? Woman, it's cold outside...I need my hat NOW!!! She really was nice. I was just being extra-crabby today, and wanted to have my way.
So, I continued to look around until I saw this.

And then I thought to myself that it could do this. So, I bought it. I am going to make the TAOS Beret using Misti Alpaca Worsted. I have always wanted to use Alpaca, so here is my first try. Wish me luck. I need to finish this hat ASAP, before my ears fall off.

And the tam is super cute!! Thanks for the link! It will go well with your cute pink jacket.

Well it looks like you scored anyway! Nice colorway! Alpaca is super warm, warmer than wool (the fibers are hollow) so I'm betting you'll be happy with your adventure with alpaca.

Thanks for the link to Sauniell's hat. I loved it at Rhinebeck and can't wait to make one for myself! There is a Manos sale at my LYS this weekend...I'll look for the Mulled Wine color for you. I used that color to make a moebius basket...it's gorgeous!! :)

Love the colors in the yarn. Very verstile. Could be worn with pink or brown. Awesome. Now knit knit knit! LOL

I love pink & brown together! I've never heard of the yarn & will have to check on a local place for it. I absolutely love alpaca. It is so luscious & light weight, yet very warm. You will be addicted to it instantly. I have used it almost everytime I was faced with the choice of merino or an alpaca yarn. Have fun with it. The hat will be an evening project.

Very cute, a perfect match. The Misti Alpaca is divine to touch. I wound some of mine for the hot water bottle cozy. Hmm, I should pick up more...

Hi Shameka,
I'm new to the blogging scene. I love this yarn you chose! It is definitely going to look good with your jacket. I am writing you from chicago, so would like to know where I can order this from. I am in the process of setting up my page, but I'm here on blogger, my name is bravebird. Look me up. Your page is wonderful and your work is great! I am a year old knitter, but have been crocheting since the age of 8. Please write back and keep in touch - good to meet people on your side of the country! I'll be looking out!
